Celebrating the Little Things with Your Delayed Toddler

I’ve decided to start a new section in this blog on celebrating the little things–whether they be accomplishments, getting to the top of a waiting list, or just having a good day.  Sometimes, with a delayed toddler, the little things take so long, and then one day, they just get it and it clicks.  I think it’s important for us to celebrate the little things and to find excitement in every step forward, no matter how small it is.  I’m not talking about throwing a party or anything (unless of course, that is your thing, then by all means, go for it!), rather I’m thinking of just recording the little victories so that you have a record of how far your special child has come.  It’s also something to look back on when you are having a rough day, something that will encourage you and help you to keep going, day by day.  I’m the first to admit that it is not easy raising a child with challenges, and that is why I think we need to celebrate when things are going right.  Are you with me?  Feel free to share your celebrations here as well.  It’s always great to hear what other children are doing.

Wow, first steps are a big celebration time. I can imagine how great it was when Sue-Sue caught on. And how great that your family was with you at both times!

B was a late walker too and I remember my older daughter saying, “Mama! She’s walking!” and being as excited as me about it. Now we can’t stop her :)
